It is a little surprising that East passed partner's 3 bid, but as it happened it was for the best...

 

North led the Ace of diamonds, on which South signalled for a club by playing the 2.  North played King and then small club, and so was able to trump the third club.  Then Declarer claimed for plus 140.

 

This was one of those hands where half the room played in four spades, making, when NS failed to get in the club ruff, and the other half played in three spades making, when on each occasion it appeared they did.  Nobody scored 3 + 1 and nobody scored 4 -1.  One enterprising Declarer conjured up 11 tricks, presumably when North failed to cash the Ace of diamonds and Declarer set up the Dummy's heart suit for a diamond discard.
