February 2006

Alaric Cundy, with the support of his wife Dorothy, will become the proprietor of Mountnessing Bridge Club with effect from the end of August 2006. Alaric says:
  • My first priority will be to ensure that the club continues to provide enjoyment for both members and visitors, and continues to be regarded as a warm and welcoming club. I will not be making radical changes to the way the club functions, but I will be adopting the philosophy that the club cannot stand still as the world around it changes. Evolution rather than revolution will be the by-word.
  • There will be three self-evident early changes:
    1. In recognition of the tremendous support and dedication to the club by Lionel and Fay Wernick over a period of nearly 20 years, two new trophies will be introduced based on a cumulative ladder. The Fay Wernick Trophy will be awarded to the leading lady member, and the Lionel Wernick Trophy to the leading man. For full details, keep an eye on this website.
    2. This website will be a new innovation - due to be launched officially on September 1st 2006.
    3. Regrettably, it will no longer be possible to run the "Host System" for single players, but instead there will be a "Find a Partner"scheme. See elsewhere on this website for details.
  • My wife, Dorothy, will play a key support role, for which I am very grateful, especially as she is a non-Bridge player. Clearly Lionel will be a very difficult act to follow, so I hope that both members and visitors will be understanding until I find my feet!
